Statistics Canada released figures on wholesale trade for February 2015. Wholesale sales declined for a second consecutive month in February, decreasing 0.4 per cent to $53.6 billion, their lowest level in six months. Sales were down in three of seven subsectors, accounting for 51 per cent of wholesale sales. The full release is available online.

Statistics Canada announced the Consumer Price Index for March 2015. The Consumer Price Index rose 1.2 per cent in the 12 months to March, after increasing 1.0 per cent in February. Statistics Canada released figures on investment in non-residential building construction for the first quarter 2015. Investment in non-residential building construction decreased 1.2 per cent to $12.9 billion in the first quarter, following three consecutive quarters of growth. Statistics Canada released a study: Grandparents living with their grandchildren, 2011. In 2011, close to 600,000 grandparents aged 45 and older, or about 8 per cent of all grandparents in this age group in Canada, lived in the same household as their grandchildren. Statistics Canada released its Labour Force Survey for March 2015. Employment increased by 29,000 in March, driven by gains in part-time work. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.8 per cent. The full release is available online.

Statistics Canada release its figures on building permits for February 2015. Canadian municipalities issued building permits worth $6.1 billion in February, edging down 0.9 per cent from the previous month. This was the second consecutive monthly decline. Lower construction intentions in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta were responsible for the decrease at the national level. Statistics Canada issued figured on Canadian international merchandise trade for February 2015. Canada’s imports declined 0.7 per cent in February while exports were up 0.4 per cent. Consequently, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $1.5 billion in January to $984 million in February. The full release is available online.
