Statistics Canada released figures on Canada’s international transactions in securities, January 2014. Canadian investors added $2.3 billion of foreign securities to their holdings in January, a fourth straight month of such investment. Statistics Canada released its national balance sheet and financial flow accounts for the fourth quarter of 2013. National net worth increased 2.7 per cent to $7.7 trillion in the fourth quarter, reaching $218,500 on a per capita basis. Statistics Canada released its figures for building permits for January 2014. The total value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities rose 8.5 per cent to $7.0 billion in January, following a 4.8 per cent decrease in December. Statistics Canada released figures on industrial product and raw materials price indexes, January 2014. The Industrial Product Price Index rose 1.4 per cent in January, led by higher prices for energy and petroleum products. The Raw Materials Price Index increased 2.6 per cent as a result of higher prices for crude energy products. The full release is available online.

Statistics Canada released its figures for Canadian economic accounts for the fourth quarter of 2013 and for December 2013. Real gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 0.7 per cent in the fourth quarter, the same increase as in the third quarter.
