September 27 – Statistics Canada Press Releases

Statistics Canada released its report on e-commerce and Internet shopping. Canadians used the Internet in 2009 to place orders for goods and services valued at $15.1 billion, up from $12.8 billion in 2007. The agency released its July 2010 payroll employment, earnings and hours, results. Between July 2009 and July 2010, the average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees rose 3.9% to $855.66. The agency released its July 2010 employment insurance results. In July, 672,200 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, down 31,400 from June. The agency released Canada's international transactions in securities for July 2010. Non-residents added $5.5 billion of Canadian securities to their portfolios in July, on par with the amount acquired in June. Canadian bonds again accounted for the majority of foreign inflows. The agency released its 2010-2011 university tuition fees results. Canadian full-time students in undergraduate programs this fall paid 4.0% more on average in tuition fees for the 2010/2011 academic year than they a year earlier. This increase is slightly higher than the one for 2009/2010, when tuition fees rose 3.6%. The full release is available online.

The agency released its July 2010 monthly survey of manufacturing. Manufacturing sales decreased 0.9% in July to $44.3 billion.
